Facebook and Your Local Business

Recent studies have found that some small business owners mistakenly think they don’t have enough time, money or other resources to invest in Facebook promotions. It doesn’t require a full-time social media coordinator nor much of a budget, if any.The adage “keep it simple” goes a long way here, and with that in mind, here are ten ways for small businesses to maximize their presence on Facebook with minimum resources.

The post itself is a model, in my opinion, of what it’s trying to say: short, educational, to the point, full of calls to action. Take a moment to click through and read – bookmark it for later if you think it’ll be beneficial to check back with later on.

For me, I think the second and third ones are probably the key to the deal:

  • Make time.
  • Learn as much as you can.

This isn’t rocket science, not even close – but it does take time to do it right. And there are definitely things to learn to do it better and to see more bang for your proverbial and literal buck. But most entrepreneurs I’ve talked to on these matters recently “just don’t have time” to work social media for their businesses. And I understand to an extent. It’s difficult to wrap your mind around using something that your teenager does as a viable marketing concept. It’s too easy. It’s too inexpensive. If it’s cheap and easy, it’s harder to find the time and resources to do it right. That’s a huge paradox to me, and a myth that needs to be shot out of the water.

So make time to do it, and then to do it while also learning to do it better. “Best practices” are easy to find, easy to implement, and just need someone with the heart and passion to do it right. Lots of good resources out there – like this blog, for instance? Hello?

Next up in the series will be built around a former post and the fifth point from the article linked above: “Create a page, not a profile”. We’ve got more points to back up that notion, so we’ll see what else clicks with you the reader. Thanks for stopping through.
